Ellie & Tom's Wedding at Lloyd Brothers

“It's true I crave you…crave you”

There were four distinct phases of Ellie and Tom’s wedding - pre-ceremony and ceremony; cocktail hour; dinner; and dancing. They communicated what vibe they wanted and what music was important to them at each stage of the day. We took their ideas and playlist suggestions and crafted a musical journey that flowed from start to finish.

Ellie and Tom held their wedding ceremony and reception at Lloyd Brothers. There were four separate spaces requiring sound coverage at different times. We used our spare set of JBL 515XT speakers (and some long cables!) to provide music to the grassed ceremony area, the al fresco cocktail space, the indoor barrel hall and the outdoor dance floor.

Clear and early communication with couples and venue managers helps us to manage these complex setups. So if you’ve got big dreams for your wedding, please ask what’s possible! We ensure we arrive early enough to get everything setup and sound checked before your guests turn up.

Ellie and Tom’s pre-ceremony and ceremony music requests included Norah Jones, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, and Etta James. To which we added some D’Angelo, Cleo Sol and The Emotions. Their processional song: Parcels’ cover of "I Will Always Love You" was a winner (and a new song to our ears too).

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed an al fresco cocktail hour. We soundtracked this with soulful beats and aural treats e.g. Mayer Hawthorne, Al Green, Lord Echo, Michael Kiwanuka, HNNY, and Masego. An important aspect of our role is to adapt the energy of the music to the energy of guests. Some weddings, such as this one, had a chatty and vibrant cocktail hour, with music to match. Whereas other weddings have more of a lounge, garden atmosphere. Our experience DJing many events over the years helps us handle the different moods required.

Once guests were seated inside Lloyd Brothers magnificent barrel hall room, speeches commenced. Following this, we restarted with palate cleansing dinner jazz (e.g. Miles Davis, Coltrane). Guests were eating and chatting quietly, so a shift to gentler, moodier music felt right. As the meals progressed, we gradually built the mood back up to pre-dancefloor energy. Playing mid tempo tunes by Grace Jones, Boz Scaggs, and Durand Jones & the Indications, to name a few.

Ellie and Tom had selected “Crave You” by Flight Facilities for their first dance. Following this, guests joined them for “Le Freak” (CHIC), “Don’t Stop (‘til You Get Enough” (MJ), and Don’t Stop the Music” (Rihanna). We were off and away on a two hour dancefloor odyssey that none of us wanted to end. Some other enthusiastic dancing highlights included Candi Staton’s “Young Hearts Run Free”, SOFI TUKKER’s “Purple Hat”, and Dizzee Rascal’s “Bonkers”. Reluctantly we had to call it a night. Guests farewelled Ellie and Tom with a majestic sparkler-lit exit to M83’s “Outro”.

Thanks Ellie and Tom for having us as your wedding DJs!

Ellie and Tom said: “Nick and Ben were the DJs at our wedding in November and absolutely nailed it. They were super professional, communicated with us regularly from initial enquiry right through to post-wedding, and spared no detail along the way.

They even headed down to our venue in McLaren Vale a week prior to triple check they had the right tech and setup for our ceremony, indoor reception and outdoor dancefloor, making us feel at ease with the whole day.

All of our guests have been raving about the music ever since... and I personally did not want to step away from the dance floor for a second as their music selection was on point. Cannot recommend Funk Bros DJs enough, especially if you're into vinyl.”

We're available for hire as wedding DJs in Adelaide if you think we're the right fit for your wedding.
