“This is, this is real love. This is just like real love…”

Kyah and Dylan contacted us, via our website, 5 months before their wedding.
They explained that they’d previously considered playing the music themselves off a playlist, but felt that they needed a DJ to keep the energy up and the songs mixing quickly. So we were hired for the dance floor portion of their reception.
Kyah and Dylan provided a detailed music brief, which was incredibly helpful for us to understand their tastes and what they wanted. We really encourage couples to be clear about what they do and don’t like, so we can make the music spot-on for your wedding.
Kyah and Dylan’s music brief:
The music at our wedding is super important to us. We have such a huge and varied taste, and a vinyl collection which would give most whip lash. It formed a lot of what we have in common when we first met, so we really want to get it right!
Our absolute hope and dream would be to have a 'hot dub time machine' type session where we work through some decades of tunes (old to new) and have 1-2 minutes of each song at key points to keep the momentum going. We sometimes find that playing some songs in their entirety puts a handbrake on the dancefloor and means that those who don't like that particular song are tapping out never to return.
We want to try and have something for everyone that will keep everyone moving, and momentum and nostalgia is the aim for us; we are nineties kids, but have some old time loves and would love for this to be reflected and want to have a bit of a point of difference from your standard wedding tunes (sometimes feels like all are the same).

We’re happy to play for portions of events, as long as it’s for 3 hours or more
(given the effort of our set up and pack down).
At past events, we’ve played the whole range: from ceremony through to night's end, or just for the dancefloor. When we’re hired for only the dancing section of a wedding reception, we arrive with time to set up so that we can relax, take in the atmosphere, hear the speeches and catch the vibe of the couple and their guests. This helps us know where to take things next and how quickly to do so.
Now, back to Kyah and Dylan. Once the speeches finished, they moved to the beautiful, outdoor-lawned area of Lost Phoenix Farm for their first dance to Big Scary’s “Real Love”.
Following this touching, heartfelt song, they’d requested we kick off the dance floor with Elvis’ “Burning Love”. This brought guests onto the dance floor, where we then had free rein to sequence music from Kyah and Dylan’s playlist plus anything else we felt fit the mood.
Keeping in line with their desire for a ‘hot dub time machine’ style, with quick mixes of songs, we played anywhere from 1-3min of songs to keep the energy up and to fit in as much varied music as possible.
Kyah and Dylan's playlist of 51 songs, divided by 180 minutes of DJ playing time, equalled about 3min per song.
Sometimes less, because we added other songs of our choice which fit the various moods and tempos of the evening.
For songs on vinyl, this meant carefully selecting the points where we wanted to mix the song in and out, knowing that we can’t easily ‘skip’ sections of the record once it’s playing. Digital songs are much easier to manage in this way, as we prepared ‘cues’ for where the song could start, end, or for sections that could get skipped or looped.
This requires musical knowledge of the energy points of songs and where is a suitable place to mix in or out so that guests can continue dancing and it doesn’t feel jarring.
Some of the dance floor highlights were:
The Jackson 5 “I Want You Back”
T-Rex “Get It On”
Peaches & Herb “Shake Your Groove Thing”
Tina Turner “The Best”
The Divinyls “I Touch Myself”
The Supermen Lovers “Starlight”
Outkast “Roses”
Sneaky Sound System “UFO”
Both us and the guests were having a ball. Alas, the night eventually had to be wrapped up. Kyah and Dylan had chosen “Killing in the Name” by Rage Against the Machine as their final song, which guests belted out with a lot of gusto!
Kyah and Dylan said:
“The night was absolutely fantastic! The dance floor was cranking and we were so happy! I had many friends ask about playlists etc. Thanks so much again guys. You were a big part of what made our night so great!”
